Learning to Trust God

Foreword
I am a Christian beginning to realize that God is my loving Father in heaven as proven by the death of Jesus the Christ, His only Beloved Son.
In the unfolding pages, all negative connotations have been made in reference to me. I do not speak for or of others.
This is a result of personal experiences and observations. This is by no means a sermon of any sort nor does it serve to generalize the Christian experience.  I am no Bible teacher or pastor. I am the beloved child of God getting to know (as a privilege) Him as a loving Father.
If you have been blessed by this e-book, let all the glory and praise redound to my loving Father in heaven in Jesus’ Name. If you find anything amiss, let God judge my heart.

Synopsis
Every time the evil one returns with that same stinking lie about God, I say, “NO-ah!” Noah means rest. Then I turn to the Cross and I shout, “YES-hua!” Yeshua is my Lord Jesus. He is the personification of the unearned, unmerited and undeserved love of God for me. Not knowing how much God loves me results in disobedience. And disobedience opens the door to sin.  Sin is rejecting God’s love.
The fulfillment of Bible prophesies points to the integrity of God. In other words, they serve to convince me that God can be trusted.
I believe God has allowed scientific discoveries to be made to confirm Biblical accounts. Not that God needs the testimony of man to confirm His integrity.  It is for my benefit that He has done so.  It is to satisfy my fallen mind and allow it to be convinced of His integrity.  This is so that I can learn to trust Him.
Psalm 138:2 tells me that God magnified His Word above all His name!  This is how much God honours His Word! His integrity!
God is not like human beings to lie! God cannot lie!
God has chosen the nation of Israel to tell the world that He is real! Israel is real! God is real!
God sent His only Beloved Son to die on the Cross as Jesus the Man to prove to me that He loved me.
If I believe that Israel is real, I can believe Jesus is real. If I can believe Jesus is real, I can believe God loved me!

Can God be Trusted?
How can I know for sure that this God of the Christians can be trusted? To begin with, is he even real?  And who is this guy Jesus? My Christian friends told me he is the son of their God; another fictional fallacy? Lagi (meaning more in the Malay language) confusing!
A joker friend of mine came telling me this:
Every time the evil one returns with that same stinking lie about God, we say, “NO-ah!” Noah means rest. Then we turn to the Cross and we shout, “YES-hua!” Yeshua is our Lord Jesus. He is the personification of the unearned, unmerited and undeserved love of God for us.
What in the world is he talking about?!? I really Lia'h Boh Kiew (Literally means catch no ball. Refers to completely not understand)!
When can they ever speak in layman terms which I can understand?!?

The Christian Anomalies
When I look at my Christian friends, I find them both weird and strange.  Some of them are even darn hao lian (meaning proud in Hokkien, a Chinese dialect). I heard an incident of two Christians coming to blows right after Church because of some parking disputes.  Can anyone blame me for being skeptical?
And those others that I know say one thing but do another. Tak boleh tahan [colloquial Malay loosely translated as "I can't take it anymore"]! They talk the walk but don’t seem to walk the talk.
Yet when I look at their lives, some are doing pretty well while those who are not appear happy.  Are they really happy or macam (Means to resemble something) happy only?!? Don’t wayang (Malay for pretend) lah! How can anyone be happy without money? Money is king you know?  If their God is not giving them lots of money, why do they still trust him?  Have they been brainwashed or something? Interesting.
Then some biao kia (meaning idiot in Hokkien) told me God help those who help themselves! What crap!
The lagi tok kong (Hokkien term meaning “superb”) classic was this thingy called tithing. They told me that when I give 10% of my money to the Church, their God would bless me. Yo Magoo! Who is blessing who now? That sound like a con job to me man! I only know the chicken thigh in my Hainanese chicken rice!
Vomit blood you know!

My Christian Life
Then one Christian chow Ah Beng (meaning an uncouth or uncultured person in Hokkien) told me to read the Old Testament in the Bible. The Old “testa” what? The only one I know ends with “icles”! Only he got the balls to ask me to do a thing like this! He told me that it records the义气 of his God. I understood that to mean loyalty or faithfulness. I can relate to that. I learnt that term when I watched Hong Kong movies.  It is that special bond between blood brothers.
But I still have a problem.  The things written in the Old Testament sound absurdly alien to me, even to the point of being ludicrous! They are but stories at best.  Most of the time, I could not understand any of it for the life of me. My Beng (meaning an uncouth or uncultured person in Hokkien) Christian friend then asked me to go church to better understand the Bible. Me go church?!?  What is happening to me?!?
The Church service was hilariously funny. I never knew going to church could be so much fun.  I have imagined myself being bored to tears! The pastor was very good with jokes. Yet, those jokes helped me understand the Bible better. It became a routine for me, at least for quite a while. Then I started tithing. I have never given so much money for nothing concrete to hold in return. But my financial horizon was the same. I did not receive any phenomenal quantum increase in my finances. Then I heard a sermon telling me to tithe with a revelation. I did not have it. I stopped tithing. After a while, I realized I also did not have a revelation about going to church. I stopped attending church.
But somehow, this 义气 thingy got me to read the Bible over and over again. I bought volumes of Christian books written by many popular Christian authors and sermon DVDs of that funny pastor as well as other well known ones. I walloped them all.
Yet I could find no satisfaction. I felt very buay song (colloquial Hokkien for not happy)!
Whenever I wanted to give it all up, I would receive literature in one form or another that addressed those very sentiments for the moment. I believe the spiritual jargon is “word of knowledge”?  I am still not sure about that. But it kept me going.
I reached a point when I was reading the Bible for the sake of reading. To kill the boredom, I started writing. A Christian “big brother” warned me to be careful about not writing the wrong things. It scared the shit out of me. He was the “spiritual father” you know. Don’t play play! (Singapore colloquial for “be serious”. Often deliberately mispronounced  "don't pray-pray").
But then what are the right things? Who is the judge of what is right or wrong? Can’t I write about what I find the Bible is telling me? If you don’t like what I write, you can always disregard them!  Irritatingly perturbing!
While writing, I found it useful to do word study. So I began to study the Strong’s Concordance as well. It was a refreshing experience.  Gradually, I formed the habit of recording any thoughts of Bible scriptures that come to my mind; either in my hand-phone or on paper. Those thoughts were sporadic at first. It helped that I reduced them in writing as it served to arrest and rein in those thoughts. As time went by, those intermittent thoughts that peppered my mind seem to be converging at one point – the love of God.
In all honesty, I found that mushy thought repulsive at first. I am a full-grown man. I am tough. I am strong. I am macho. I am a pillar of strength. I have been seasoned by the weathers of life. Only gu niangs (colloquial for weaklings) need love.
Then I realised I have interpreted love as protection for the weak. I have been brought up in a culture of男人流血不流泪 ( a real man can bleed but cannot cry) ,  男儿有泪不轻弹 (a real man do not cry easily) and 头可破,血可流眼泪不能流 (head can break, blood can flow but tears cannot flow). It is the prideful and unrealistic expectations of a man to be able to stand up against anything while suppressing all the accompanying emotions. Hello! I am a man; not superman! Even superman has a nemesis – kryptonite!
But God’s love for me encompasses every fabric of my life. It includes provisions and gifts.  Well, I can live with that! Later, I succumbed to the need for protection too; His protection against the unseen enemies of sicknesses and diseases and viruses. I don’t know about you.  But I sure need to be insulated against all that!

God’s Love
As I began to read the Bible from that perspective, the burning question arose within me: How do I know that He loves me?
Then I read Romans 5:8 and found out that Jesus Christ is the only Beloved Son of God sent to die on the Cross to prove God’s love for me.
When I read John 3:16 again, it dawned on me that the word “loved” is in the past tense. It indicates the duration of His love for me. He loved me from before antiquity all the way through to eternity. In short, He loved me for a very long time and for much longer time to come! That represents the scope of His love.
Then I saw the depth of His love for me in those words “His only begotten Son”.  He gave up His only Son for me. Matthew 3:17 tells me that Jesus Christ is not only God’s only Son but His Beloved Son.
The word “beloved” means greatly loved. Would I ever give up what I love greatly for someone else? Hell no!
Then Philippians 2:6-8 showed me what God’s only Beloved Son has given up to die for me, “ Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross!”

Would I ever give up a life of power and luxury for a bunch of irritating arseholes? You must be kidding!
Would I be so stupid to be punished for the mistake of one who treats me like a bitter enemy? You must be out of your mind!
True love carries with it a price. A price that costs the best of what the lover has. It is pure folly to me. But this is the love of God for me.
Psalm 8:4, “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of [earthborn] man that You care for him?”

God loved me!
What is Sin?

As I think on the scriptures from the standpoint of God’s love for me, it occurred to me that sin is rejecting God’s love. From my word study, I found out that sin means missing the mark.  But what is the mark? The mark is God’s love for me. That thought rests quietly within me.
So what does it mean to reject His love? In page 103 of The Strong’s Concordance of Hebrew and Aramaic Dictionary, some clues are provided:
“The fruit of this tree (the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil; italics added by me), if consumed, would reveal the difference between moral evil and moral good.  This reference also suggests that, by eating this fruit, man attempted to determine for himself what good and evil are”
As I reflected on it, I find myself becoming increasingly convinced that Adam chose to decide for himself what is good and evil for himself against God’s better counsel. In effect, Adam was telling God to let him determine for himself what is right or wrong.  In essence, he was telling God to not tell him what to do! Let him be the captain of his own life!
Step back old man!
That sounds like rejecting God’s love.

Disobedience
As I kept on thinking about it, I read Romans 5:12 and 19 again. It struck me that sin was a result of disobedience. Before the Fall, there was no sin yet. Then what made Adam disobedient?  It cannot be sin. Sin was non-existent yet. In a flash, I saw it. Adam did not know just how much God loved him!
Like a child just brought into the world, he is more curious than conscious of the parents’ love for him. He has yet to realize that his parents know much better and far more than him.  He has yet to experience the love of his parents which is most evident when he messes up only to find them clearing up the crap after him. Thereafter, he finds himself in the loving arms of the parents kissing him and assuring him of their love for him. In the next breath, the child messes up again-BIG TIME! His parents clear his shit again. And the cycle goes on. This is how a child grows to be convinced of his parents’ love for him. I believe this is the reason God made the human race through Adam with the foreknowledge of Adam’s disobedience. The parable of the Prodigal Son serves to support this notion [Luke 15:11-32].
Adam was like an innocent and curious child deceived into believing that God kept some good things from him. I see this in Genesis 3:4-5, “But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.”

If I may paraphrase those verses, it would be something along these lines, “God is bluffing you. He does not want you to eat the fruit because there is something good for you there. He does not want you to have it. He is keeping that good thing from you.”

In other words, the crafty serpent was insinuating that God is a liar Who loves not.  But Bible says that God loves [1 John 4:8].
Hence, not knowing how much God loves me results in disobedience. And disobedience opens the door to sin.
Si Gin Na Mai Thiay Lin Bey Gong (Hokkien for dying or naught boy not listening to what the father says). Didn’t the Bible say that Adam will surely die on the day he eats from the forbidden tree?
But how do I really know that God loves me? The standard answer is to look at Jesus on the Cross.
Frankly, that tells my mind that the Cross is the proof of God’s love.  But my heart is a blank! In other words, I am not convinced leh!
What now?
Most of my Christians friends told me that they know God loves them because He has blessed them in this and that.
So when I am not blessed in this and that, does it mean God don’t love me?
Then why did the Bible say that Jesus on the Cross is the proof of God’s love for me. Why didn’t the Bible say God’s blessings are the proof?
Si buay Luan! (Hokkien for very confused). Freaken’ confusing!
Then I have this gut feel to look at the fulfillment of Bible prophesies.
Trusting God

Therein lies the key to learning to trust God. At least my gut is telling me so. It starts with knowing and understanding the integrity of God. This is seen in the Old Testament accounts of Him doing exactly what He said He would do. If we cannot trust the integrity of God, how can we ever come to trust Him? The trust lies in His integrity.
Some of the Biblical accounts are too far back into antiquity for me to relate to.
Of all the Bible prophesies, the one about the nation of Israel kept coming to my mind.  Israel as a nation was dispersed throughout the world for hundreds of years. It is just simply amazing that she has not become extinct. Instead, she came back as a very resilient nation with most, if not all, of her culture and customs intact.  Can anyone beat that?
God has chosen the nation of Israel to tell the world that He is real!
The fulfillment of Bible prophesies proved God’s integrity [Numbers 23:19]. It is here that I start to learn of God’s integrity or His faithfulness to His Word [Isaiah 55:11]. When I begin to see God as faithful, He says that I have seen well [Jeremiah 1:12].
When I am convinced that God is not a man that He should lie [Numbers 23:19], then I can finally be on the same page or frequency as Him.
The arrangement of the three Books of Job, Psalms and Proverbs gives me an idea of the progression in trusting God.
In the book of Job, Job was oblivious of God’s unconditional love for him. He imagined that his spiritual piety was the basis of God’s providence.
Right after the Book of Job is the Book of Psalms. It was written mainly by David, a man who sought God’s love; a man after God’s own heart [Acts 13:22]. Then the Book of Proverbs (Wisdom) followed. Wisdom is the knowledge of God’s love put into action; it is trusting in His love for me. It is being Christlike.
Jesus Christ the Man epitomized complete trust in God. Abram was a type of that epitome.  Abram trusted God to provide the sacrificial lamb even to the point of lifting the knife to slay Isaac, the son he deeply loved, when God came through. [Genesis 22:8, 12-13]. It was through such experiences of trusting God that Abraham was fully persuaded and won over by the integrity of God and His love for him [Romans 4:20-21].
So shall I progress in the journey of trusting God. I start off by being ignorant of His gracious and unconditional love. Through the fulfillment of Bible prophesies, I begin to trust in God’s integrity. This is so that I will accept His testimony of His love for me as proven by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man. With that, I can begin to accept His arrangements in my life trusting that He has my best interest at heart. As I allow His Sovereign and loving purpose to shine through in my life, I will begin to understand His love for me. Every time I allow that to happen, the trust in Him deepens Finally, I enter into a trusting and loving relationship with Him.

Christian Growth
When I learn to trust in God’s love for me, I will gradually become contended with whatever earthly lot He has given me [Philippians 4:7]. I rest in knowing that His great love for me is working all things (good and bad) together for my good [Romans 8:28]. I trust that He knows better when to give me what I need [Jeremiah 29:11].
With this contentment comes peace [1 Timothy 6:6]. Girded by full confidence in His perfect providence, I no longer need to compare with others. What I have now is God’s best for me at this particular station of the current stage of my life. There is no place for envy or jealousy.  They cause unrest, disharmony, rebellion and all sorts of evil and vile practices [James 3:16, 1 Corinthians 3:13].
I do not need to be bothered by what others are saying about me. Who shall lay a charge against me when it is God Who justifies me [Romans 8:33]?  It is before my Lord Jesus the Christ that I stand or fall.  My Lord is mighty to support me and make me stand [Romans 14:4]. Hence I do not find the need to engage in tongue lashing [James 3:6].
This is the kind of peace that Jesus has given and bequeathed to me [John 14:27].
Thank You Jesus!

Christian Anomalies Explained
Now that I am the beloved child of God, I can better understand the anomalies mentioned at the onset of this e-book.
The best lay man term I know of when sharing the Gospel is to tell you that a man laid down His life for you willingly. That Man was Jesus the Christ. He is the only Beloved Son of God.
Whenever I am engaged in open disputes, it is because I do not carry everything to Jesus in prayers but took things into my own hands instead.
I may not be filthy rich and yet be happy. I am contended with whatever earthly lot He has given me [Philippians 4:7]. I rest in knowing that His great love for me is working all things (good and bad) together for my good [Romans 8:28]. I trust that He knows better when to give me what I need [Jeremiah 29:11].
Whenever I trust in God’s love for me, I walk on the storms of my life.  The moment I fret over those challenges, I sink into them. Even then, my Lord is able and mighty to lift me up when I cry to Him for help [Matthew 14:29-31].  Hence, I become clumpy and look like I have been baptized in tom-yam juice whenever I take my eyes off the love of God for me.
When I appear hao lian (proud), it is only because I have yet to anchor my security in God’s love for me.
The saying of “God help those who help themselves” is not Biblical.  If you can help yourself, you won’t be asking God for help. God specializes in helping those who realize that they cannot help themselves.

If you don’t feel like tithing, don’t! Just focus on getting to know His integrity. 君无食言! A king or gentleman won’t go back on his promise. And He is the King of Kings!
Finally, I have become so accustomed to living a life without God that it will take some time for me to get used to living this new lifestyle of dependence on Him or trusting Him. Therefore, I may come across to you as one who “talk the walk” but not “walk the talk”.
It is a paradigm shift.
It is like the right-handed holding a toothbrush in the left hand to brush the teeth. I am His work-in-progress. You will get to see a perfect me when my Lord Jesus Christ returns.
I pray that I will be counted among your number.

Conclusion
I place my trust in a person because of his proven integrity.
I can only begin to trust God when I am convinced of His integrity.  This is seen in Him doing exactly what He said He would do. This is the fulfillment of Bible prophesies. They are not some mystical phenomenon to entertain my feeble mind. They point to God’s integrity.
The Christian faith is not a blind faith. It is based on God’s persuasion through His Word.  The basis of faith is God’s revelation of Himself. God’s Word is Himself. God is His Word. His Word is Him. His integrity is His Word.
The saying, “You have my word”, makes reference to a person’s integrity.
Therefore, God says in Jeremiah 1:12, NIV that He is watching to see that His Word is fulfilled. Again in Isaiah 55:11, God said that His Word shall not return to Him void. They both echo Numbers 23:19, that God is not a man that He should lie. All these point to His integrity.
Psalm 138:2 tells me that God magnified His Word above all His name!  This is how much God honours His Word!
In other words, God is telling me that I have His Word. He is telling me that when He says something will be done, it is done.
I cannot come to a place of trusting God because of what others are saying about Him.  I need to see for myself and be personally won over.

Jesus is asking me the same question he did Peter, “But who do you yourselves say that I am?” [Mark 8:29].
How would I answer?  I wonder.

Note from Author
Anyone can interpret the scriptures in favour of an adopted stand [2 Peter 3:16]. I find that the only constant in the Bible is God’s love for me.  I find the love of God is beyond any doubt the crimson thread running through the Bible from cover to cover. Therefore, I have chosen to read and interpret the Bible in the greater context of His love for me.
This is my personal conviction. This is how I enjoy my Bible.
I am the beloved child of God that Jesus the Christ has made me to be [2 Corinthians 5:21] in the process of getting to know God’s love for me.
If you have been blessed by this literature, let all the glory and praise redound to our loving Father God. If there is anything you find amiss, let God judge my heart.
If you would like to support the declaration of God’s great love, you can do so HERE.

The Big Con

Synopsis
The world we live in today has fallen prey to a lie. The lie that God is a miser Who withheld good things from us. In essence, God do not really love us.

Adam accepted that lie. He was our progenitor and representative. We accepted his decision by proxy.
Today, we can reverse or void that decision when we accept Jesus as our Lord.

Adam was our lord in that what he did, he did it for, to, in and as us.

Jesus is our Lord because what He has done, He did them all for, to, in and as us. Confessing Him as Lord is taking possession of all that He has done and achieved so that as He is, so are we in this world [1 John 4:17, Romans 5:15-19].

By confessing that Jesus is our Lord, we veto the decision Adam made for us by proxy. God made it so easy for us!

Jesus is God [John 1:1, John 14:9]. God is greater than Adam. But of course! Hence, what Jesus did overrode what Adam did. Greater is He Who is in me that he who is in the world [1 John 4:4]. God is love [1 John 4:8]. His love has been poured out in my heart [Romans 5:5]. Hallelujah!

Is that a fantastic deal or what?
Foreword
The world has become what it is today because of a big con job!

The lie is that God is a miser Who is withholding good things from us.  In other words, He does not really love us.

Wisdom is the knowledge of God’s love put into action; it is trusting in His love for us. It is being Christlike.

So will we progress in the journey of trusting God. We start off by being ignorant of His gracious and unconditional love. Through the Cross, we begin to see that He loved us. Thereafter, we slowly get to know of His love. Finally, we enter into a trusting relationship with Him.

The fulfillment of Bible prophesies proved God’s integrity [Numbers 23:19]. It is here that we start to learn of God’s integrity or His faithfulness to His Word [Isaiah 55:11]. When we begin to see God as faithful, He says that we have seen well [Jeremiah 1:12].

The death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man proved His love for us [Romans 5:8].
By these two immutable or unchangeable things, God has established His claim of loving us; His claim over us as His beloved Own [Hebrews 6:18]. In the verse, the promise refers to the Promised Messiah and His oath is His integrity.

What more can He do to convince us that He loved us? We are His beloved children! God has redeemed us from the big con job! [Galatians 3:13].

By believing in the lie that God is a miser, Adam chose to earn his keeps. This erroneous perception of God culminated in his posterity asking for the Law; do good get blessed and do bad get cursed. God’s providence and love for us are unconditional. The asking for the Law manifested the wrong perception of God.

God gave up His only Beloved Son to die on the Cross as Jesus the Man to prove to us that He loved us unconditionally. He loved us not based on what we do or don’t do. His love for us is unmerited, unearned and undeserved. He simply loved us.

When we accept God’s proof of His gracious love, we reject satan’s lie. With that rejection, we are redeemed from the curse of that lie.

God emphatically reinforces the absolute and perfect love for us in Romans 8:32, “He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?”

Contrast the cry of God’s heart in that verse with satan’s suggestion in Genesis 3:4-5, “But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.”

I would paraphrase that as such, “God is bluffing you. He does not want you to eat the fruit because there is something good for you there. He does not want you to have it.”

Every spiritual force of evil out there recognizes us as His own.

How about us?

Questions
How did the world end up in lack with scarcity and opportunity cost as the way of life?  These thieves came to steal and to destroy.  Along with them came inflation, the silent corrosive agent in stealth.

Have we been able to stop their rampage?

With advancement in every facet of our lives, have we become happier people? Or have we lived so long without happiness to forget what it is really like? Worse still, have we substituted it with something much more inferior that we can achieve within the constraints of this aged world?

These are just some of the many burning questions that beg to be answered.

With our combined human knowledge and intelligence, are we anywhere near the answers or have we drifted further from them than we would ever care to admit?

How much longer do we want to live in the lie that we can help ourselves when centuries of futile attempts have brought us from the frying pan into the fire?

Would you agree with me that we need help desperately?

Thus far, it has been nothing but a string of questions. To begin with the answer, we start with the lie.

The Lie
The world has become what it is today because of a lie.

The greatest liar in this world managed to deceive the first human being on earth into believing that God is a miser. That false accusation cast a serious doubt on the integrity of God’s love for the world. John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the world, meaning everyone in the world be it Christians or otherwise.

Satan’s charge against God impeached or challenged the credibility of His very nature and character. God is love [1 John 4:8]. Just as fishes swim, water wets, heat warms, so God loves. You get my drift?

When Adam took the bait of satan by eating from the forbidden tree, he accepted satan’s testimony of God as a miser Who withheld something good from him. Hence, Adam decided to get on his own what he thought God was keeping from him. Adam also agreed with his wife, Eve that the fruit of the tree was desirable to make them wise [Genesis 3:6]. Alas! Men professing themselves to be wise ended up fools! [Romans 1:22]. A wise fool! What an oxymoron!

With his acceptance of the false testimony, Adam had unwittingly chosen to reject God’s love and provisions. Adam chose to be self sufficient instead of God sufficient. He chose to rely on or trust in self rather than God.

God provided everything that Adam would ever need in the Garden of Eden and placed him there. All Adam needed to do was to take care of the “fruits” of God’s “labour”. Adam did not have to work for them. Everything in the garden was fully grown and ripen, ready for his taking.

The Effects
But when Adam chose to rely on himself, God respected his decision and took him out of the garden. Why did God not override Adam’s decision? It was because God gave Adam the gift of free will or choice.
It was never God’s intention to create robots.  His every intention was to make us His beloved children who would willingly requite His love or love Him back by trusting Him.

Once out of the garden, not only did Adam have to earn his keeps, he had to sweat for them [Genesis 3:17-19].  With his finite abilities, lack in every form ensued.

Adam was our representative. His choice became ours. The repercussions of that choice became our harsh and cruel realities.

The Reversal
God, the Creator of the entire Cosmos, has provided the ultimate and conclusive proof of His complete, selfless and unconditional love for us; by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man. This serves to refute satan’s lie or ludicrous charge against God.

Today, we can reverse or void our decision by proxy when we accept Jesus as our Lord.

Adam was our lord in that what he did, he did for, to, as and in us. By confessing that Jesus is our Lord, we veto the decision Adam made for us by proxy. God made it so easy for us!

Jesus is God. God is greater than Adam. But of course! Hence, what Jesus did overrode what Adam did. Greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world [1 John 4:4]. God is love [1 John 4:8]. His love has been poured out in my heart [Romans 5:5]. Hallelujah!

The Gospel
What good news! We get to choose again!

We do not need to live under the dark regime of that lie. We can choose to live in the light of Truth; God loved us! God’s Word is Truth [John 17:17]. God’s Word is Jesus [John 1:1]. Jesus came to show and prove that God loved us [Romans 5:8].

God, our loving Father, has transferred us from the dominion of the darkness of that lie into the kingdom of His love as proven by the death of His only Beloved Son [Colossians 1:13].

Do we want to continue living under the oppressive conditions of this world that is spinning out of control? Or do we want to live above them trusting in our loving Father to control and turn them in our favour?

God’s love for the world is universal and unconditional.  But the vote of confidence in His love and the veto of Adam’s folly is by confessing Jesus as our Lord.

The reason the only Beloved Son of God was made manifest was to undo (destroy, loosen and dissolve) the works the devil has done [1 John 3:8].

Jesus the Man is the Christ or the Promised Messiah or God’s Anointed One. God has:
1) Anointed Him to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor;
2) Sent Him to:
        a) announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
        b) send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and
                broken down by calamity],
        c) proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free
favours of God profusely abound]. [Luke 4:18-19].

The Good Deal
Jesus is our Lord because what He has done, He did them all for, to, in and as us. Confessing Him as Lord is taking possession of all that He has done and achieved so that as He is, so are we in this world [1 John 4:17].

Is that a fantastic deal or what?

It is like going back to the Garden of Eden in which God has provided everything for our taking.
God has tendered the death of His only Beloved Son as evidence of His love for us. Is that piece of evidence admissible to you?

Our loving Father in heaven has laid before us life and death; the truth of His love and the lie of satan. He is urging us to choose well by accepting the proof of His love for us by the laying down of the life of His only Beloved Son [Deuteronomy 30:19].

The New Life
As we have become so accustomed to living a life without God, it will take some time for us to get used to living this new lifestyle of dependence on Him or trusting Him.

It is a paradigm shift.

It is like the right-handed holding a toothbrush in the left hand to brush the teeth. It would feel odd and uncomfortable initially.

Meanwhile, the accuser, the old serpent, will try his level best to unseat us from our new stand or position of rest. Therein lies the spiritual war; Ephesians 6:12, For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

Our loving Father has equipped us for this spiritual warfare. He has prepared and recorded volumes of testimonies and witnesses of His great and everlasting love for us in an evidential document called the Holy Bible.

Holy means sets apart. Bible means book. It is a Book set apart for our spiritual warfare. We overcome the evil one with God’s words.

The Bible speaks of tomorrow. Yet some are looking at today to authenticate what the Bible is saying about tomorrow. Even though many of the tomorrows as spoken of in the Bible have already become today, the same still question those tomorrows that have yet to become today.

The fulfillment of Bible prophesies authenticates God’s claim of His love for us and highlights His integrity. God do not lie! [Numbers 23:19].

As we allow God to let us experience this new life as His beloved children, we will begin to understand His love for us. When the veil obscuring His identity as our loving Father Who Himself tenderly loved us [John 16:27], we find ourselves not conforming to the fashion of this world, a fallen world that fell prey to satan’s lie [Romans 12:2]. We will become more Christlike. To be Christlike is to trust in God’s love for us [2 Corinthians 3:18].

We will learn and be convinced that God knows much more and far better than us [Isaiah 55:8-9]. He made us [Genesis 2:7]. When we were just an idea in His loving mind, He has already chartered a wonderful path that is unique to each of us. He knows what is truly good for us [Jeremiah 29:11]. In the process of getting to know Him, we get to know ourselves better too.

God loved us. He loves, not spoils. Whenever we do not get to do things our way, remember it is in our best interest that He did not allow it [Proverbs 3:12, Hebrews 12:6].

How many times did our earthly parents not give in to our every whim and fancy when we were much younger? Looking back, were we not glad that they did just that? The same is with our heavenly Father.

Hebrews 12:9-11, “Moreover, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we yielded [to them] and respected [them for training us]. Shall we not much more cheerfully submit to the Father of spirits and so [truly] live?  For [our earthly fathers] disciplined us for only a short period of time and chastised us as seemed proper and good to them; but He disciplines us for our certain good, that we may become sharers in His own holiness.  For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness—in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God].”

Every challenge or trial in our lives serves to establish a deeper and closer relationship with God, our loving Father. A bond is forged when two people go through thick and thin together. Our loving Father promised that He would never leave us or forsake us and that He would be with us wherever we go [Deuteronomy 31:6, 8, Hebrews 13:5]. We regard every trial wholly joyful as it draws us closer to our loving Father [James 1:2]. As we fight the spiritual war of faith together with Him, we become more established in His love for us [1 Timothy 6:12].

In the account given in Daniel 3:24-25, a heathen king threw three young men into the fire for trusting in our Father God. He was in the midst of the fire with them and protected them. The three young men came out of the fire unharmed without even the smell of smoke on them. That same king was so floored by the display of our Father God’s mighty protection that he promoted the three young men.
Our loving Father is the same yesterday, today and forever [Hebrews 13:8]. He loved all His children the same [Acts 10:34].  What He has done for the three young men, He would do the same for us today.

The Answer
The fulfillment of Bible prophesies proved God’s integrity.

The death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man proved His love for us.

By these two immutable or unchangeable things, God has established His claim of loving us; His claim over us as His beloved Own [Hebrews 6:18]. In the verse, the promise refers to the Promised Messiah and His oath is His integrity.

Our problems are the result of the lie.

The answer to our problems is found in the crimson thread running through the Bible from cover to cover; the crimson thread of God’s great and everlasting love for us.

The death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man has proven beyond a shadow of any doubt that God loved us.

The Rewards
When we learn to trust in God’s love for us, we will gradually become contended with whatever earthly lot He has given us [Philippians 4:7]. We rest in knowing that His great love for us is working all things (good and bad) together for our good [Romans 8:28]. We trust that He knows better when to give us what we need [Jeremiah 29:11].

With this contentment comes peace [1 Timothy 6:6]. Girded by full confidence in His perfect providence, we no longer need to compare with others. What we are having now is God’s best for us at this particular station of the current stage of our lives. Envy or jealousy causes unrest, disharmony, rebellion and all sorts of evil and vile practices [James 3:16, 1 Corinthians 3:13].

We do not need to be bothered by what others are saying about us. Who shall lay a charge against us when it is God Who justifies us [Romans 8:33]?  It is before our Lord Jesus the Christ that we stand or fall.  Our Lord is mighty to support us and make us stand [Romans 14:4]. Hence we do not find the need to engage in tongue lashing [James 3:6].

This is the kind of peace that Jesus has given and bequeathed to us [John 14:27].

Call to Action
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us, Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

A child born and bred in a toilet is now given a choice to live in a palace. Which will he choose?

It’s our call now!

What is it going to be?

Be Alert
1 Peter 5:8, “Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.”

John 1:17, “For while the Law was given through Moses, grace (unearned, undeserved favor and spiritual blessing) and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Grace is God’s unearned, unmerited and underserved love for us. Truth is that God loved us.

We have peace knowing that He Who knows much more and far better than us is working out things that are truly good for us. We can then rest from all our futile struggles to make things right based on our limited and finite knowledge of what is good and evil. As we flow with the rhythm of His grace, we come to understand His great and everlasting love for us.

Hence, rest finds grace. In grace we find God’s great and everlasting love for us.

Remember that Jesus Christ the Man was tempted many times in the wilderness.  Even after the three recorded temptations, satan retreated only to wait for an opportune moment to tempt Him again [Luke 4:13]. Our Lord Jesus Christ was tempted at all points and yet without sinning [Hebrews 4:15] . He was tempted to reject God’s love but did not.

Whenever we trust in God’s love for us, we walk on the storms of our lives.  The moment we fret over those challenges, we sink into them. Even then, our Lord is able and mighty to lift us up when we cry to Him for help [Matthew 14:29-31].

Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.  And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

We turn all our challenges into prayers to Jesus because we have an awesome friend in Him. All our sins and grieves He bears. What joy we often forfeit and what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to Him in prayers.

Each time we take things into our own hands rather than trusting God to be in control, we land ourselves in unnecessary troubles.

Proverbs 26:2, NKJV, “Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight.”

We do not give in to satan’s suggestion that we must do all things possible to get what we want. This smacks of the lie that God is withholding the good stuff from us.

We do what the Lord has put in our hands to do.  Thereafter, we stand on His love for us to work all things for our good [Ephesians 6:13].

2 Timothy 3:16-17, “Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

There is a lesson to be learnt from King Hezekiah as recorded in Isaiah 38 regarding the Sovereignty of God’s Omniscience. I quote an extract of the footnote to Isaiah 38:5:

God’s time for Hezekiah to die had come (Isa. 38:1), but he had no son. It was unthinkable to him, apparently, that he should die and leave no heir to his throne. As devout as he was, he could not trust the Lord to give His faithful servant what was best for him. So he took matters into his own hands and begged to be allowed to live on. The Lord granted his request—sons were born. How immense the grief that resulted! One of his sons, Manasseh, became Hezekiah’s disgraceful and ruthless successor, not for just a few years, but for fifty-five! (II Kings 21:1ff.) He undid everything reformatory that had been done, established idol worship, caused his son to go through the fire as an offering to the pagan god, defied God’s prophets, and caused the slaughter of those who opposed him (including perhaps Isaiah, his father’s best friend who, according to Jewish tradition, was sawed in half during Manasseh’s reign). How little Hezekiah knew of what was best for him or for Judah! How presumptuous is anyone who demands that his own short-sighted vision replace the wisdom of God’s plan for his own life or for that of others!

It is not my will be done but His because He knows better what is truly good for me [Jeremiah 29:11].
If I perish, I perish [Esther 4:16].  I will be joining my loving Father in heaven and living in one of those mansions that Jesus the Christ has prepared for me [John 14:2].

Amen!!!

Standing Before the Lord

Foreword
One Word from God can transform my life. Yet it is one word with the sense of His immense love for me that will cause the transformation.

Wisdom is to know that God loved me from His Word and life’s experiences. The resultant knowledge of His love is the Tree of Life. I am blessed when I hold fast to that knowledge [Proverbs 3:12-18, AMP].

The only Beloved Son of God dying on the Cross as Jesus the Man is the display and proof of God’s great and everlasting love for me [Romans 5:8]. Therefore, Jesus the Christ is my Wisdom [1 Corinthians 1:30]. I see the Cross to get knowledge of God’s love for me. When I put that knowledge into practice, it becomes Wisdom.

Our Lord as Jesus the Man prayed for a bail out in the darkest hour of his life. Yet He trusted in the love of God for Him to see Him through. This is recorded in Matthew 26:39. The point is this; Jesus the Man went through it with the sense of God’s love for Him. This brings to mind the three young men in the Book of Daniel [Daniel 3:24-25].

The underpinning significance is this; God’s love for us will see us through any storms in our lives with immense good coming out of them.  Jesus the Man manifested this in Mark 4:39. The strong sense of God’s love within Him gave Him tremendous peace. And that same peace calmed the tempest.

Let patience have full play and do a thorough work so that we may be people perfectly and fully developed, lacking in nothing [James 1:4].  Our Lord as Jesus the Man has set the example. We follow His example; the example of trusting in God’s love for us. Hence Psalm 23:1 says that “The Lord is our Shepherd and we shall not lack.” Can you see the connection?

Should we not be able to see God’s love for us, let us ask of the giving God Who shall liberally show and teach us [James 1:5]. And we shall learn to trust in His love by studying and pondering on that love and then practice it in our lives [Proverbs 3:12-18].

When God starts to show and teach us His love through our circumstances, we are to stand on His love [James 1:6]. How can we ever learn of His love for ourselves if we do not let His love shine through our challenges in life?

God promised in Proverbs 8:17 that those who seek Him shall find Him.

God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good? [Numbers 23:19]. Abraham was persuaded and won over by God’s love for him [Romans 4:21].

Anyone can interpret the scriptures in favour of an adopted stand [2 Peter 3:16]. I find that the only constant in the Bible is God’s love for me.  Therefore, I have chosen to read and interpret the Bible in the greater context of His love for me.

This is my stand.

The entire Bible is about God’s love for me. It behooves me to study and ponder the scriptures in the light of His love for me.

Psalms 1:1-3, AMP, Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.  But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.  And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

It is only because of what God’s only Beloved Son has done as Jesus the Man that I now get to know (as a privilege) the love of God for me.

I am the beloved child of God getting to know His love for me.

Standing Before the Lord
Everyone will take their stand before the Lord when He returns [2 Corinthians 5:10, Romans 14:12].
To me, “stand” means the position I have taken on this side of heaven.  I will appear before the Lord with my personal conviction.  He will then let me know or show me the authenticity of my adopted stand.  In other words, He will judge my adopted stand according to my heart.

The Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart [1 Samuel 16:7].

God promised He would give me a new heart.  Yet it is not instantaneous.  It is a gradual renewal process as I progressively come to know or be persuaded or won over by God’s love for me [2 Corinthians 8:9];  His love for me as shown and demonstrated by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man [Romans 5:8].

Therefore, the Bible tells me that I am God’s work in progress [Philippians 1:6]; the on-going renewal of my heart that comes from repentance [change in thinking] as I hear of God’s love for me as demonstrated by the Cross. Hence, Romans 10:17, AMP, “So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).”

What did Jesus, the proof of God’s love, tell me?

God the Father Himself tenderly loved me [John 16:27]. God, the Creator of the entire Cosmos, is my Father! He is my loving Father! He loved me. He loved me tenderly from before antiquity to eternity [John 3:16].

John 3:16 [AMP]
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

The scope of God’s love for me is seen in the word “loved” in John 3:16. It is in the past tense indicating the duration of His love. He loved me when I was just an idea in His loving mind.

The depth of His love for me is evident from the “sending” or “giving up” of His only beloved Son to die for me on the Cross.

This is further illustrated in Philippians 2:6-8, AMP, “Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being.  And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross!”

One word from God can transform my life; just one word with the sense of His immense love for me.

When I hear the song, “Love Me Tender”, it reminds me of God’s love for me.  This is my version of the lyrics:

He loved me tender, He loved me sweet,
He never lets me go [Romans 8:35, Hebrews 13:5, Deuteronomy 31:6, 8].
He has made my life complete, for He loved me so [John 3:16].
He loved me tender, He loved me true.[John 16:27]
I’m His dream fulfilled.
I’m His darling and He loved me.
And He always will.

When I begin to practice the sense of His love for me, it flows to my heart. And out of the heart springs forth the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23, Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

How do I keep and guard my heart?

It is through the peace in knowing that God loved me. It is the peace that results in being content with my earthly lot of whatever sort [Philippians 4:11].  God has allowed all things (good and bad) to happen for my good because He loved me [Romans 8:28].

How do I know that God loved me?

It is by the display and proof of His love for me as demonstrated by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man [Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:10].

Our Lord Jesus puts it this way in John 14:27, AMP, “Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]”

Jesus the Man bequeathed or passed on to me His peace by proving God’s love for me through His death on the Cross. The death Itself is the proof.  Jesus the Man allowing Himself to die on the Cross represented trust in God’s love put into action.

Jesus the Man trusted in the love of God for Him so much that He obeyed God even to the death of the Cross. Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name [Philippians 2:9].

It was obedience in accepting His portion in life. It was the peace that resulted in being content with His earthly lot of whatever sort [Philippians 4:6-7, AMP]. All of these were girded by the sense of God’s love for Him.

Did Jesus the Man prayed to be bailed out of it all? Yes!

It was recorded in Matthew 26:39, AMP, “And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire.”

Yet Jesus the Man acknowledged that God had His best interest at heart. In the same fashion, I acknowledge that God’s love for my will direct and make straight and plain my paths [Proverbs 3:6].
This brings me to Philippians 4:6-7, AMP, “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.

Right after Jesus the Man prayed for the “cup to pass away from Him’, He stood on God’s love for Him. With that trust, peace ensued.

No matter how bad any situation may appear in my life, the death of God’s only Beloved Son as Jesus the Man on the Cross has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that God is working in all situations to do good in, to and for me!

This is the peace that will guard my heart and mind by looking at what God had done in, for and through Jesus the Man.

From His death, I see that God allows all things [good and bad] to work together for my good [Romans 8:28]. Even when circumstances may seem so dire and bleak, yet God is in control to bring all things in my favour.

Jesus the Man had great peace [Shalom peace] because He trusted in the love of God for Him.
It is the trust in God’s love for me that will enable me to be content.

And it is, indeed, a source of immense profit, for godliness accompanied with contentment (that contentment which is a sense of inward sufficiency) is great and abundant gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and obviously we cannot take anything out of the world; But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied). But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction and miserable perishing. For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs.  But as for you, O man of God, flee from all these things; aim at and pursue righteousness (right standing with God and true goodness), godliness (which is the loving fear of God and being Christlike), faith, love, steadfastness (patience), and gentleness of heart. [1 Timothy 6:6-11].

The words “wandered from the faith” reminds me of what our Lord Jesus said in Matthew 13:20-22, AMP.
God’s love for me is best learnt in the challenges of my life. I can only do what God has placed in my hands to do.  Thereafter, I stand on His love for me [Ephesians 6:13, AMP].

I can boldly approach the throne of grace to ask for anything [Hebrews 4:16]. Yet I trust in my Father’s love for me to give me what I should have when I should have them.

There are lessons to be learnt from the scriptures [2 Timothy 3:16]. I learnt a lesson from the record of King Hezekiah about  trusting God’s Sovereign love and providence [Isaiah 38:5, footnote].

How presumptuous is anyone who demands that his own shortsighted vision replace the wisdom of God’s plan for his own life or for that of others!
(The above passage is extracted from HERE)

Wisdom is to know that God loved me. The only Beloved Son of God dying on the Cross as Jesus the Man is the conclusive proof of that love.  Therefore, Jesus the Christ is my Wisdom [1 Corinthians 1:30].
As the beloved children of God, His corrections are aimed at letting us know of His great love for us.

Proverbs 3:12-18, For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.  Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences],  For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold.  Skillful and godly Wisdom is more precious than rubies; and nothing you can wish for is to be compared to her.  Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand are riches and honor.  Her ways are highways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.  She is a tree of life to those who lay hold on her; and happy (blessed, fortunate, to be envied) is everyone who holds her fast.

Wisdom is to know that God loved me from His Word and life’s experiences. The resultant knowledge of His love is the Tree of Life. I am blessed when I hold fast to that knowledge.

The entire Bible is about God’s love for me. It behooves me to study and ponder the scriptures in the light of His love for me.

Psalms 1:1-3, Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

When my mind is constantly reminded of God’s love for me, that knowledge will flow to my heart. With that, a sense of God’s love is being developed gradually within me.

What is in my heart determines my actions.

The Apostle John said that if I do not love, I do not know the love of God [1 John 4:7-8]. Then he provided the means to know the love of God in 1 John 4:9,  “In this the love of God was made manifest (displayed) where we are concerned: in that God sent His Son, the only begotten or unique [Son], into the world so that we might live through Him.”

If my actions do not reflect the trust in God’s love, I have yet to know His love for me.

James 2:14, “What is the use (profit), my brethren, for anyone to profess to have faith if he has no [good] works [to show for it]? Can [such] faith save [his soul]?”

Faith (trust in the unearned, unmerited and undeserved love of God for me) without the resulting effects of that love in me manifesting as corresponding actions (works) is dead (void of the sense of God’s love).

The Apostle Paul said that even if I have been given spiritual gifts and doing acts of charity and yet not know the love of God, I am but like the sounding of cymbals [1 Corinthians 13:1-3]. That paints a picture of loud and irritating noise. It infers that I can have the gifts of the blessed Holy Spirit and yet not be convicted of God’s love for me.  By extension, it also means that I can be materially blessed beyond my wildest imaginations and yet not have an inkling idea of God’s love for me. It reminds me of Adam before the Fall.
It is no wonder that the Apostle Paul said that He was determined to know nothing except Christ crucified, that is, the display and proof of God’s love [1 Corinthians 2:2, Romans 5:8].

If the Apostle of grace needed to be constantly reminded of God’s love for him through the Cross, what more I?

Do I need to feel condemned for not knowing the love of God for me or not measuring up to His love with my actions? No! God forbids!

Romans 5:8 tells me that God proved His love for me by the Cross when I was still a sinner in rejection of His love for me. What more now that I am seeking to know of His love for me? Perfect love cast out fear which is rooted in guilt and condemnation [1 John 4:18].

In practical terms, getting to know God’s love for me means:

1. Reading and thinking scriptures in the context of His love for me;
2. Making sense and connecting scriptures in the light of His love for me;
3. Standing on His proven love for me when faced with any challenge that is thrown at me.

The crimson thread running through the Bible from cover to cover is God’s great and everlasting love for me. He loved me from before antiquity right through to eternity.

It is meditating on scriptures through the lens of His unmerited, unearned and undeserved love for me and writing about it consequentially.

This is my personal conviction. This is how I enjoy my Bible.

I am the beloved child of God that Jesus the Christ has made me to be [2 Corinthians 5:21] in the process of getting to know God’s love for me.

If you have been blessed by this literature, let all glory and praise redound to our loving Father God. If there is anything you find amiss with this, let God judge my heart.

If you would like to support the declaration of God’s great love, you can do so HERE.

Integrity of God's Love For Me

I can choose to believe or trust in God’s love for me even though every circumstance may seem to point to the contrary. The basis of this trust is not the prevailing circumstances. It lies in the proven track record of the integrity of His love for me.

By two immutable [permanent, not subject to change] things, God has established the integrity of His love for me [Hebrews 6:18]:
1. His Word; and
2. His only Beloved Son.

God sent His only Beloved Son as Jesus the Man to tell me that He is my Father Who Himself tenderly loves me [John 16:27].

God sent His only Beloved Son to show and prove His great love for me [Romans 5:8].

In John 10:38, Jesus said that even if I do not believe Him, at least believe His works.

The Old Testament foretold what the Promised Messiah (Christ) would do and therein provides the manner in which He could be identified.  The four Gospels bear records or testimonies of what Jesus the Man has done. Hence, the identity of Jesus the Man as the Promised Messiah can be ascertained with the collaboration of the testimonies from two separate witnesses, the Old and New Testaments.

Even if I find myself not having been persuaded or won over by the proof of God’s love for me through the death of His only Beloved Son, I can at least begin to recognize that He loved me based on the integrity of His Word. Many things that God said in the Old Testament have come to pass. In and of themselves, they speak volumes of His integrity.

The Bible speaks of tomorrow. Yet I am looking at today to authenticate what the Bible is saying about tomorrow. Even though many of the tomorrows spoken of in the Bible have already become today, I still question those tomorrows that have yet to become today.

If I can see and accept the integrity of God as a person Who does not lie, I can then begin to accept His testimony that Jesus the Man is His only Beloved Son Whom He sent to show and prove His love for me by His death; His integrity as seen not just in my past circumstances, but more so from Biblical records, witnesses and testimonies.

Anyone can interpret the scriptures in favour of an adopted stand. I find that the only constant in the Bible is God’s love for me.  Therefore, I have chosen to read and interpret the Bible in the greater context of His love for me.  This is my stand.

It is only because of what God’s only Beloved Son has done as Jesus the Man that I now get to know (as a privilege) the love of God for me.

I am the beloved child of God getting to know His love for me.

Two Kinds of Realities

Realities are based on facts. Facts are shaped by the latest discoveries. New discovery means new fact.  New fact results in new reality. Hence, reality is a function of new discovery.

Reality is mutable or subject to change. Truth, on the other hand, is immutable, that is, fixed, permanent and not subject to change.

What is Truth?
Jesus said that God’s Word is Truth [John 17:17].  Note bible numeric. The number 17 stands for victory. Truth is double victory! John is the Apostle of love, the consciousness of God’s great and everlasting love. Hence, this same consciousness leads to double victory!

What is God’s Word?
John 1:1 tells me that God’s Word is Christ.

Who is Christ?
Romans 5:8 informs me that Christ came to show and prove God’s great and everlasting love for me. His love for me that spans from before antiquity to eternity [John 3:16]. This is evident from the word “loved” which refers to the duration of that great love. It is in the past tense. It tells me just how long He has loved me! He loved me when I was just an idea in His loving mind.

God’s Love
Therefore, Truth is God’s Word. God’s Word is Christ. And Christ is the proof of God’s immutable love for me! That is double victory!

The truth of God loving me from before antiquity to eternity is immutable. It is constant.

Jesus told me that the cares and concerns of this world would choke the word, that is, dispute the proof of God’s unconditional love for me [Matthew 13:22].

Bible says to cast [or fling like dung] all my cares upon Him for He cares for me [1 Peter 5:7].  Jesus said God my Father Himself tenderly loves me [John 16:27].

Temptations
All of the three recorded wilderness temptations of Jesus the Christ were aimed at disputing God’s great and everlasting love [Matthew 4:1-11]. There was an attempt to lure Jesus away from God’s love with wealth and richness. But our Saviour stood by His conviction of God’s love for Him and overcame the temptations.  So it will be the same for me today. Resist the devil with the proof of God’s love for me [the Cross] and he will flee from me [James 4:7].

I believe our Lord Jesus was born conscious of God’s great love for Him.  The public declaration of Him as God’s Beloved Son in the scriptures was meant for the fallen world to hear [Matthew 3:17, Mark 1:11].

God’s Peace
Don’t ever allow fleeting facts or circumstances to obscure God’s abiding love for me. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present my requests to God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard my heart and mind through Christ Jesus. [Philippians 4:6-7]. This peace in knowing that God loved me, by the proof of His love for me through the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Christ, shall guard my heart and my mind.

The peace that comes from knowing that God Who so loved me is working all things for my good [Romans 8:28]. This same peace enables me to be content with whatever station of life He has placed me [1 Timothy 6:6-12]. With this peace, I am empowered to not conform to or be fashioned after this age [Romans 12:1-2].

God’s Righteousness
God Who conceived me as an idea before the foundations of the cosmos had already chartered a wonderful path for me. This is the path of the righteousness of God. The one who is consciousness of God’s great love by the proof of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man is the righteousness of God [2 Corinthians 5:21].

God’s Rest
I can rest in His great love for me knowing that He did not spare even His only Beloved Son for me but gave Him up to prove to me that He loved me. Since He loved me so much, I can trust in His plans for me.  I can accept that whatever is happening in my life at every given stage of it is the best arrangement.

Lack
Lack in any form, be it health or wealth, stems from the root of fear; guilt and condemnation. Those sentiments I inherited from Adam when he rejected God’s love by partaking of the forbidden tree. Perfect love casts out fear [1 John 4:18].

The way to get out of any lack is to be constantly mindful of the proof of God’s everlasting love for me by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man [Philippians 4:8]. This is substantiated by the account in John 9:1-11.

Sin
A man was blind from birth.  Jesus’ disciples asked Him who sinned, the man or his parents.  Jesus answered neither.  It is my personal belief that the root cause lied in the inherent guilt and condemnation, the sentiments that obscured the sense or knowledge of God’s great love. Those sentiments are a lie!

The making of clay from the ground refers to Fallen Man who rejected God’s love. The blindness was healed by washing in the Pool of Siloam, which means Sent. The Beloved Son of God was sent as Jesus the Man.  He was sent to show and prove God’s great and everlasting love for me. Hence, washing in the Pool of the Sent refers to accepting the proof of that same great love.

With that acceptance, the blind is healed. In other words, when I accept the proof of God’s love for me by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man, I will see God as my Father Who Himself tenderly loves me! [John 16:27].
When I see that, God tells me that I have seen well [Jeremiah 1:12].

Tree of Life
Jesus said in John 14:18 that He did not leave me as an orphan. Jesus had given me the peace in knowing that my Abba God loved me as a tenderly loving Father.  This peace Jesus had left with me and bequeathed to me.  The knowledge of my Abba God’s immense love for me will calm my troubled and fearful heart. [John 14:27].  This is the Tree of Life!

God’s Kingdom
He Who did not spare even His only Beloved Son but gave Him up for me, how shall He not also together with Him freely and graciously give me all things?!? [Romans 8:32].

Seek first the knowledge or to remain conscious of His great and everlasting love for me as shown and demonstrated by the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Christ, and I shall see all things working together for my good [Matthew 6:33, Romans 8:28].

God’s Will
At this point, I would like to present Romans 5:8, John 6:40 and Romans 8:28.
Romans 5:8 says that God sent His only Beloved Son to die on the Cross as the show and proof of His love for me.

John 6:40 says that the will of God is for me to accept the proof of His love for me.
Then Romans 8:28 says that when I love God by being called according to His purpose (i.e His purpose or will to accept the proof of His love by the death of Jesus), I will know that all things work together for our good.

God’s Generosity
My Abba Father shall supply my every need according to His glorious riches in His love for me. It is “according” and not “out of”. “According” means all that He has.  “Out of” refers to only a portion of what He has.  Such is the generosity of God’s love for me!

Choice
I can choose to limit the scope and depth of the realities in my life based on ever-changing facts and circumstances. Or I can opt to live in the realities of life according to the boundless and immutable love of God for me. The Creator of the cosmos Who Himself tenderly loved me as a Father. His constant Fatherly love always turns all fleeting facts and circumstance in my favour.

I have chosen to live the new creation realities.  I, who accept the proof of God’s love for me by the Cross, start my new life with the gift of no condemnation [Romans 8:1].  Behold, the old things of fear rooted in guilt and condemnation have passed away.  All things have become new with this precious gift of no condemnation! [ 2 Corinthians 5:17].

What about you?

God through the death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross as Jesus the Man proved that He loved us just the way we are. It is because He made us in His image. He could not loved us any better although He might not seem to care. But He does. He watched over His word to perform It [Jeremiah 1:12]. His Word does not return to Him void [Isaiah 55:11].

A Note from the Author
I have chosen to read and interpret the Bible in the context of God’s great and everlasting love for me. Since God sent His only Beloved Son to die on the cross as the display and proof of His love for me, it is my personal conviction that the Bible which speaks of Jesus should be enjoyed in that context.

Jesus the Christ, the only Beloved Son of God, is the crimson thread that runs through the Bible from cover to cover. He is the only proof of God’s great and everlasting love for us all!

I am the beloved of God just like you, whether you are a Christian or not.  For John 3:16 says that God so loved the world, that is, everybody. God loved me as mushc as He loved you!

But the only way to know God as the Father Who Himself tenderly loves you is to accept the proof of that love by the willing and sacrificial death of His only Beloved Son on the Cross [Romans 5:8] as Jesus the Man [Philippians 2:6-8].

Like what I told my unbelieving wife. You can tell Jesus that you don’t know if He is real or not.  Tell Him that if He is there, you invite Him to help you with your problems. There has been a similar account in Mark 9:24. It is all about His faithfulness and integrity.

God is not a man that He should lie [Numbers 23:19]. Whoever calls on His name will be saved [Romans 10:13]. Jesus is the Name, show and proof of God’s everlasting love for you. The name of God’s love for you and I has been highly exalted above all names [Philippians 2:9-11]. For with Him, all things are possible [Luke 18:27]. He offers practical help in times of need [Psalm 46:1].

By inviting Jesus to help you with your problems not knowing if He is real or not is in a way hoping that He is real. If not you won’t be asking Him.

And when His goodness shines forth in your situation, then the way you think of Him will change, a.k.a. repentance. For the Bible says that it is the goodness of God that leads men to repentance, that is, what men think of Him [Romans 2:4].

He is not an abstract idea.  He is real.  He is not angry or morose.  He is loving.  We can trust in Him because there is nobody in this entire cosmos Who loved us like the way He does!

We can only begin to see God as our Father Who Himself tenderly loves us when we accept the proof of His love by the death of His only Beloved Son as Jesus the Man on the Cross [John 16:27]. We love Jesus by believing that He, the only Beloved Son of God, is the proof of God’ love. With that belief comes the knowledge of God as a tenderly loving Father.

Simply trust in His love for you.

If you have been blessed by this literature, let all glory and praise redound to our loving Father God. If there is anything you find amiss with this, let God judge my heart.

Labor Pains

John 16:21-22 likened Jesus' disciples to a woman in labor.
21A woman, when she gives birth to a child, has grief (anguish, agony) because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she no longer remembers her pain (trouble, anguish) because she is so glad that a man (a child, a human being) has been born into the world.

22So for the present you are also in sorrow (in distress and depressed); but I will see you again and [then] your hearts will rejoice, and no one can take from you your joy (gladness, delight).

John 16:33 is the epidural:
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]
